The department of Medical Radiation Physics/Radiation Protection at the University Medical Centre Mannheim, Heidelberg University combines excellence in medical imaging and radiation therapy with innovative and high end methodology for the development of precision medicine. Ongoing research aims at optimising and improving individual diagnosis and treatment with a particular emphasis on the translation of theoretical approaches to clinical routine.
We are closely linked to the departments of Radiation Oncology and the Institute of Clinical Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.
The main foci of the research group lie on
optimisation of radiation therapy using results from imaging systems and radiobiologic experiments
Knowledge-Based Radiation Therapy Treatment Planning
development of image-guided radiotherapy in small animals
development and implementation of novel physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models and the translation from bench to bedside
novel analysis methods focusing on important information in acquired data for therapeutic purposes
second cancer risk
